Cold brew is an immersion method that needs time more than specialized equipment. A jar, a filter, coarsely ground coffee, and cool water are enough to begin.
Start with a concentrate
Combine 100 grams of coarsely ground coffee with 800 grams of cool, clean water. This 1:8 ratio creates a concentrate that you can dilute with water or milk when serving.
Steep, strain, and serve
- Add the coffee and water to a clean jar or pitcher.
- Stir gently until every ground is wet, then cover the container.
- Steep for 12 to 16 hours in the refrigerator.
- Strain through a fine-mesh filter, then filter again through paper if you prefer less sediment.
- Serve one part concentrate with one part water or milk, then adjust the dilution to taste.
Store it carefully
Transfer the strained coffee to a clean, covered container and keep it refrigerated. Make only the amount you expect to use while it still smells and tastes fresh, and discard it if its appearance or aroma changes unexpectedly.
